Welcome to Ting Teas, based in Denver, Colorado. Iām Patrick Ting
Background
In the un-lit art elementary classroom that was darkened by the contrast of the bright humid Michigan summer outside, I was one of the few kids who hadn't left to play outside because I wanted to keep pressing and molding the earthenware lump in my hands.
My attraction to clay continued through the years, into college, and then taking a long hiatus during medical school and residency. I came back to it during the early years of medical practice, very fortunate to take classes offered by the Boulder Pottery Guild and its amazing staff.
A fews later, two artists and I moved on to a run down industrial space and opened a proper studio, where we spent time in the nights and weekends, going in different directions artistically but also supporting and learning from each other. I love the way clay feels and how any idea can be formed into objects with curves and angles, with the immediacy that comes from being able to pick up the piece and hold it in the air. Before I decided on a medical career, I thought I was going to be an architect, and my designs are still influenced by concepts of modernism, efficient space utilization and optical illusions, but I also hope you see echoes of my science background in chemistry, histology and anatomy.
I wish I had more time for these ceramics, but until I do, I'm honored to share these designs and concepts with you.
